While reading the multitude of articles flooding the industry on “patient-centered care” my thoughts on the catch phrase seemed to be wavering. At first, I felt the term was perfect. Patients should be the focus of healthcare. Then I found the other side of the argument quite convincing: the consumerism of healthcare – focusing on patients as dollar figures – clouds judgment calls for physicians.
